God's Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box, And all your joys in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day, The black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be!"
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child, they're all here with me.."
I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."

Sine Likha Crash Course Production at XU (Insights)

“It takes lot of time to learn film production.” This was Mr. Gabriel Fernandez’s striking statement during the crash course on film production on January 25, 2011. It woke me up.
He stated that film makers are the modern story tellers. That is why, today, we need to learn film production or just even know its basics- film languages.
I feel so blessed to be in the crash course for I experienced all of it in just 5 hours which normally is a  9-month course.
In the short course, I learned the different types of shots.  It includes Panoramic (super wide) shot which is to give information; Wide shot; Full shot; Medium shot (head to waist); Medium close-up (head to chest) and close-up shot which is appropriate  for emphasizing emotions.
In his lecture, I also learned how to move the camera properly such as zooming in/out, panning, tilting, crane, and dolly. The latter is my favorite. It brings the audience to the scenes.
He also talked about different camera angles: standard (eye level); low for superiority; high to portray inferiority or powerless and crazy angle good for rape and murder scenes.
Mr. Gabby Fernandez stimulated  my appetite for  film production. “Culturally, you have to fight for your right to tell your stories. It is your responsibility to tell your story,” he shared. This encouraged me to think out of the box. Good stories are there already, waiting for a brave heart writer to stand firm and tell these stories of their own to other people.
As a DevComm student, this ignited my passion to communicate with sense, with a heart. Fighting to tell my stories is now my dream an inspiration to go further, beyond what has been foretold by the film makers.
Truly, film industry in the country is rich, dynamic and alive…it was just the limited imagination and creativity of the mainstream that kills this wonderful Philippine Film Industry.
