God's Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box, And all your joys in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day, The black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be!"
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child, they're all here with me.."
I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."

Poverty in our way

What is  poverty? everyday we see people suffering from it? How come poverty still lives today?

Poverty, refers to being unable to afford basic human needs, which commonly includes clean and fresh water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter. It is also lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society.

Recognizing that poverty is the Millennium Developmental Goals top priority, these photos got my attention. It captures the reality about how was our world in the issue of poverty now.
I remember when I had attended a month long intensive leadership camp in Davao City, last April 11-May 9, 2011. One of our sessions had touched this particular issue, poverty. It was about Social Responsibility session. It brings me back to the documentary videos presented to us by OMF literature.
The video presents how the Philippines suffers from poverty, though we are rich in natural resources such as Agricultural products, tourism, brilliant minds of citizen, human labor and many more. Some of our fellow citizen, were invited by the different countries to work for them. As our brilliant people leave the home land, Philippines were given the less competitive ones.

How sad to know that we- who is rich was captives of poverty due to lack of support from the government officials. People tend to forget the essence of stewardship. We are suffering from poverty not because of our insufficient resources. Nonetheless, it is because of lack of governance and good stewardship of the the God-given resources we had, around us.
